Dōteki [動的] Shinkokyū [深呼吸] (Dōteki Shinkokyū [動的深呼吸])
Visualize while breathing the relaxation of each of the following muscles groups. When stressed or when going into stressful situations, these areas will tighten up bleeding off energy and reducing the functioning of both the body and especially the mind. Part of the effects of the chemical dump triggered by stressors and dangers.
Facial tension
Shoulder tension
Neck tension
Upper back tension
Middle back tension
Lower back tension
Stomach tension (butterfly effect)
Usually you can learn to feel when your face begins to tighten up because danger triggers the flight-fight response that triggers the first of the chemical reactions that causes the facial area to take on micro-expressions of posturing so your attacker can perceive things are escalating and this is when, hopefully, your training and experiences kick-in.
Your breathing and visualization are how you rein in the effects to keep the body and mind in the best action state possible to do the right things.
In self-defense, your awareness of anomalies should trigger your spidey sense, so you can boost that awareness and by observation find out the danger/threat level in your environment. At that moment, you should begin your dynamic breathing method and take notice of the body tensioning as described. This gives your mind and body a jump on things, to mitigate effects of the adrenaline chemical starting up, due to the flight-fight response Mother Nature provided for our human survival mode and means.
You keep up this process and use your 360 observation, head rotating on a swivel thing, till you either find danger and escape and evade or you orient and decide methodologies necessary to achieve safety, security and appropriate actions to survive if actually attacked.
You see, dynamic slow deep diaphragmatic breathing, visualization of dynamic positive relaxation of mind and muscles along with solid observational awareness of anomalies in your environment go a long, long, long way to avoiding conflict and violence. It provides you a layered Security posture and mind-state necessary when entering environments you are not conditioned for, and when anomalies enter the safety and exclusion zones or areas of your “normal” living and social environments.
