Jishuku [自粛]
We’ve all been there, those first months of training where we champ at the bit to try/use our newly acquired skills out in the world 🌎. Not necessarily the competitive side, but the defense side. This could be the real “first lesson,” where the rubber meets the road. Jishuku, resist that urge because one must understand the implications as to morals, social and legal judgements that result in far more harm than a visit to urgent care, the ER or the morgue.
It’s more than just you, when you apply your skills. It involves your loved ones, friends and society as a whole. It’s not just the physical damage but social, personal and financial as well.
One lesson taught in that first encounter in sparring, “control or jishuku.” You need to apply lessons but with self-restraint so both parties learn with minimal damage.
Then there is jishuku of self, Jishuku of the emotional and responsible side of your thoughts 💭 where our judgment and humility control all aspects and levels of conflict and violence. It matters!
You see, there is soooooo much more of before, during and after that must be understood and practically applied in training, practice and APPLICATION of your tacti-cool martial prowess that keeps your firmly enclosed in the self-defend “square!”
What other jishuku concepts can your imagination create to reach mastery of your martial prowess in fense?
