or how to avoid conflict and violence
Shakai-teki jiei [社会的自衛] means social self defense 🙂
Our ability to avoid conflicts is truly about handling self in ALL social encounters. It is a skill that rates higher in importance as to survival as the ability to use our tacti-cool karate methods in a physical encounter.
This is especially critical in our interpersonal interactions to include loved ones. Even more so because who knows you so well they can trip those triggers, push one’s buttons, sending your monkey scampering off into conflict land.
Think character, personality and “emotional maturity,” along with understanding the culture and beliefs of others in your environments. Respect, courtesy, manners and knowing others, especially in other groups, rules, etc., can go a long way to “Avoid” mistakes that trigger things like an EBD.
If one truly teaches SD in their dojo they must embrace the full Monty of that concept.
p.s. I really appreciate the articles, etc., I encounter because they inspire a bit of creative thinking on my part such as the article in the Oct 2022 article by Salahuddin Muhammad “Dojo Culture as a Vehicle for Personal Development!” 👍
