Budo

武道 (compilation term for Japanese martial arts; martial arts, military arts, Bushido; )

Budo is the spiritual way of the martial arts that all practitioners must follow if they are to be true martial artists. Masaaki Hatsumi teaches the very essence of Budo, and demonstrates an array of important techniques relating to this essence, explaining how the concept of Budo transcends any one combat technique and is at the core of all the many martial arts developed in Japan.

First and foremost, we are not Japanese, nor are we Okinawans and that means without being one, living as one and living in that era of the samurai along with their beliefs and experiences we cannot truly understand “Budo.”

But, and that is a big butt, we can get a sense of what Budo may be as we perceive and come to believe through some of the following recommendations from a few authors we have spent some time studying and practicing in that environment.
