How one trains SD and especially how one applies it as to before (avoidance), during (defense/offense or fense), and after (defense-defense in the system)!
BEFORE (avoidance)
Mae [前]
Often referred to as the lead-up to potential volatile situations - conflict and violence. It must be noted that there are warning signs all along this path that to the initiated and aware and observant provides clear information to “choose” another path. Kinda like walking along, observing an obstacle, and deciding to walk across a street where it’s safer.
DURING (O.D. Fense)
Sonoaida [その間]
This is the “oh crap” period where the well trained and one who has an understanding of things can still deviate from the path of danger but also has time to use deescalation toavoid escalating conflict to violence.
AFTER (defense-defense in the system)
Ato [後]
The “oh crap” period where things have a high potential to cause a lot more difficulties than injured pride for walking away from “the fight!”
Here you deal with the dangers, obstacles and pitfalls of “the system,” i.e., the consequences of failing to avoid things. Such as, grave harm to you, grave harm or death to your attacker, AND the harm endured from the system - such as courts, convictions and both financial ruin and jail time. And, this is barely skimming the surface of costs for claiming self-defense.
Every day I read, research and study such things because knowledge is power and understanding is powerful. This allows one to make morally right, socially accepted and safer decisions one can trigger in actions as well as articulation in ways that are beneficial to your end results vs. being detrimental to your case.
All this falls under the “BEFORE” as to training and research and reality training and practice so it overcomes the stressors experienced in the DURING and AFTER.
“Forewarned, is for-armed!” Assume nothing! Seek appropriate legal assistance and advice! What you say, what you post, what you do and the perceptions of others can be good and bad - walk the walk; talk the talk!
