I thought, since I use this phrase a lot, I would explain what I mean by this since it may see repetitive and redundant.
A primary reason I use self-protection is to remove confusion from how self-defense is currently used. As you can remember, self-defense is a legal term and provides, per location such as city, county and especially state, the criteria and requirements that one must remain within if they use their tacti-cool martial arts methods to protect oneself and others from nefarous evil doers trying to remove your hard earned resources or who are trying to apply their processes against you.
Self-protection is the art and disciplines you will use to avoid being a target or the actions you are “forced” to use to keep from being seriously harmed or even killed. All those tacti-cool techniques are what you are forced to use as a “last resort” to avoid damage, prosecution or death.
It is, imperative in my teachings, that the student of self-protection keep a solid understanding and divide between self-protection and self-defense. All the current skills and teachings currently held under the heading of self-defense should be place under self-protection so that we can differentiate between the two so that when we are forced to apply physical skills we do so adhering to the rules, mandates and laws set forth to ensure we who would protect ourselves don’t end up being the aggressor and law breaker we are trying to protect ourselves from.
Note: remember, as you already know, that the divide between protector and defender to attacker and aggressor is a very fine line and if you don’t teach, train and practice both self-protection in the wild of both criminal and legal systems you will not be practicing and applying self-protection for self-defense.
I provide this phrase to ensure that the reader, the student, understands that there is a difference and one can discover how deep that hole goes by studying, learning and understanding that world starting with the following recommendations.
A comprehensive and exhaustive presentation of self-protection for self-defense can be found here.
A single source resource is found here. “In the Name of Self-Defense: What it costs. When it's worth it.”
As a matter of fact, the moment I finish this post I am once again downloading the second book in kindle to reread for the umpteenth time just to keep my understanding stable and progressively evolving at least at an academic level.
