Surprise, what is it good for...

How often does one hear and discuss and train for surprise, i.e., that unexpected and astonishing event or thing that happens to you that causes from mild astonishment to pure unadulterated shock and awe? How often does one hear, discuss, train and practice for that adrenal rush and its effects along with surprise?

Surprise, like all things, is subject to the philosophical sub-principle of "yin/yang." Surprise is both good and bad, good when you walk in your door when the lights come up and all your friends shout, "Happy BirthDAY!" Surprise can be bad when you are late going home, are not paying due attention to your environment and you are suddenly struck with great force behind your ear from behind causing your brain to scramble and your body to crumble and your abilities to stabilize and act go the way of the dinosaurs. The surprise, shock and awe that manifests is what you must prepare for in self-protection and the key element is its "SURPRISE!" Not the good kind, the very bad resulting in grave harm and possibly death.

A post like this can give hints to this concept and if you truly want to prepare, train and practice for surprise then seek out a violence professional who teaches a reality-based system of self-protection for self-defense and start working. Oh, and it requires a dedication and commitment that goes way beyond the few classes one might take because this kind of thing must be practiced continuously to work especially without gaining hands-on actual experience in such situations.
