Blog Article/Post Caveat (Read First Please: Click the Link)
Often I can end up writing about passages, quotes and maxim's provided in blogs or social media because they often, for me, leave more questions than providing answers ... or guidance. Many are written assuming that the other person will understand resulting in assumptions made by every reader. They are great sound bits and when used to provide a lesson simply don't meet the level of communication and understanding necessary for the reader to truly understand the intent in the presentation.
Making assumptions and causing assumptions to be triggered help in one sense and are a detriment in another except when one questions the presentation and receives adequate, complete and understandable responses that truly lead, mentor and guide one toward understanding and thus, enlightenment.
This is difficult because most often the person making the presentation assumes when questioned they are being 'dissed' and 'attacking of expertise' is also assumed especially when the one presenting the presentation is skillful, expert and knowledgable in a subject or discipline.
I work to try and remain prepared when commenting, posting and writing articles on my subject because when questioned I need to respond adequately to achieve understanding simply because failure for any reader to 'get it' is on me, not them. It is a responsibility I take seriously and when I cannot adequately answer it triggers additional work, research and study to derive a true, relevant and understandable answer for anyone who asks.
This methodology is and should be one of many methods a serious, expert and skilled teacher, instructor and mentor should master if they intend to pass along to those who would follow what they have to offer in knowledge, understanding, experience, skills and expertise.
Don't assume you know; don't assume you understand; don't assume your questions are going to cause angst in others; question everything regardless of its sources because it is the only way to learn and achieve understanding and that leads to enlightenment.
No one person is an island; no one person stands alone; no one person understands the universe and we can count our blessings if we truly understand just one thing... make this that one thing and watch understanding flourish and enlightenment will come.
There there is the old maxim, “When you assume, you make an ass out of you and some guy named umption.”
Then there is this, "when confrontation occurs we make assumptions and to avoid that we should consider asking 'what do you mean by that?' and maybe that will defuse the situation.
