Ancient Meme's and Quotes

Blog Article/Post Caveat (Read First Please: Click the Link)

All are inspirational to say the least and in these modern times as you can imagine they should not be taken literally to our modern needs BECAUSE what is modern is different than what was ancient as to times, environment, cultures and belief systems as to the times then v. the times now. I know you can visualize that in those times concepts and such were a bit primitive, if you will allow that term, compared to now.

The goal of all meme's and quotes and sayings both ancient and modern is symbolic in nature as a philosophical view of the concepts that are "possible." Why possible? Because the meme's and quotes and sayings are too terse, to open-ended and subject to the biases and dissonance of each person who reads them or hears them or tries to implement them into their dojo.

A very good example as you are already visualizing in your mind is the dojo-kun, the ken-po goku-i of your perspective system or style of martial arts. The reason they work so well both ancient and modern is because their terse symbolism and philosophy are such that they can apply to both ancient and modern needs, wants and objectives.

Seeing all sides, hearing all sounds and sensing all touch sensitivities along with taste and smell are easy to translate to what we use in modern as well as ancient situations thus easily utilized as a teaching and training tool to achieve necessary skills and understanding regardless.

Personally, that is the reason why I make quote/meme’s into graphics with a smidgeon of art work to post on my self-protection martial wall in Facebook. Their sole purpose is to inspire one’s creative thinking processes that hopefully will translate into the necessary skills for the person, the time in which they live and work and the skills necessary to achieve great success regardless of their intent in the dojo be it sport, combatives or self-preservation skills, etc.

Even those statements your sensei may impart to you in their efforts to lead those who would follow are to be taken with the proverbial ‘grain of salt’ BECAUSE as individuals from unique cultural and social backgrounds and needs and environments we must achieve proper and appropriate and efficient and effective skills to handle aggressions and violences at all levels. It is just so says Picard so, ‘make it so’!

As one movie character said to the gangster, “here endith the lesson or here endith this lesson today.”
