Evolution of the martial arts. A concept sometimes hindered or killed by a dogmatic adherence to a way set by the master of the system and the misguided dedication of the disciple. In order for anything to prosper and grow it must adhere to the principle of shinka or evolution that is in and of itself a progression that keeps the system updated and relevant to the current time or moment.
Shinka requires the concept of shu-ha-ri. Shu is adherence to the principles of the system as taught by the sensei while ha is a progression that allows the practitioner to make the system their own and finally ri is the actual evolution of the original system into a practice that works for the individual, the times and the moments encountered.
