VSD reminds me of several things of which one is what we, Sensei, say to our sempai and kohai is critical to success. I am not saying any type of commercial success but a success in transferring knowledge of a martial system. It comes back to knowing how to teach. It more importantly comes down to how to communicate while lowering or removing that reality gap along side that power gap.
A traditional method, or so we believe, is for Sensei to remain stoic and uncommunicative or when communications do come they are terse and to the recipient convoluted with the expectation the recipient will work it out in practice and training. Not teaching, merely an ego building tactic from my perspective.
We all in all endeavors with an emphasis on the importance of communications in the instruction of martial systems must communicate to all participants in a form that is conducive to that unique persons perceptions, beliefs, abilities, etc. or we fail regardless of attendance/participation/student enrollment levels, etc.
In the dojo, the higher the level of power, the greater the responsibility. That responsibility encompasses all those who assist below that level. The dojo leader assumes responsibility for communications from all sources. If it ain't right - you fix it.
