Martial Art "Activities"

I wanted to comment on this particular statement although short and with out its original complete content simply because I feel that there are misconceptions to the use of "activities" in martial practice. This post is in particular to martial art as in specifically Okinawan Isshinryu Karate.

Activities in this short context tends to make me think that those who would be the uninitiated into thinking it is like any other physical activity such a golf, basketball or any other "sporting event or activity."

I prefer to make sure those who wish to take up a martial art that they view it in a very serious mind-set. In my view and practice it means a system that could lead to all the results provided to anyone who may have to utilize their expertise in a violent situation. It is NOT a simple activity but a serious endeavor taken up with a serious intent, purpose, and goal.

If it remains at the forefront of any conversation of the martial arts above and beyond Isshinryu Karate then it tends to promote something less serious unless the individual(s) can differentiate the terms.

The person who stated this does have that serious intent and their entire post provided that clarity yet it struck me as a term or word that would better suit the overall intent better if it were different.

Activities could have been, "endeavor, practices, training, etc." Martial Art Practices; Martial Art Training; or Martial Art Endeavor." All more suitable and with today's replies on the Animal List as to MA and Self Defense, articulation can/is critical if you need to defend your actions in a court of law, either criminal or civil or both.

Just sayin!

p.s. this does not mean that I don't fall into this as I do tend to fall into it a lot yet I strive to find those mistakes and make it clearer for clarity in articulation goes beyond the above post and into "instruction/teaching" martial arts and I would emphasize more strongly "self-defense."
