Pre-attack-attack indicators or behaviors are those indicators that should pre-warn you of the potential for trouble.
Environment and culture not yours, do you really need to go there or be there?
MM speaks of mile markers along the path to violence and making decisions as you perceive those markers is a good avoidance strategy.
Will Robinson, Lost in Space and Robot (early warning danger will Robinson)…
We all can’t be like Will because he has Robot to, who uses all sorts of cool tech, warn of danger and alien 👽 intruders but we reality based humans have to learn some stuff and warn ourselves to potential and actual dangers.
It’s cool to learn about warning signs and behaviors but at that point we are already exposed to possible damage or death. I had to ask myself, what do I train my brain to detect and decide so I can avoid the potential altogether?
This is one of many reasons some professionals use the phrase in training, it depends…
In my previous life as a physical security professional and expert I was tasked with determining threats and potential threats way before dealing directly with said threats.
Threats always start with people. Except for threats and dangers such as floods or earthquakes all the others deal with humans. This includes “US,” ourselves because what we know, don’t know OR don’t know we don’t know has consequences and how we observe, decide and act triggers either danger or security and safety!
So, with that said, what follows is a quick list of behaviors and signs that one should pay attention too, to avoid, escape and evade bad stuff. It’s just a list and it requires a shit load of stuff to learn train and experience to achieve successes.
Take a look at my security and safety list then heed my warnings given here and there because this list alone won’t get you there.
- aggressive or threatening demeanor;
- being argumentative;
- showing contempt;
- showing distrust, hate, and/or hostility;
- spitting;
- Body language:
- take a bladed stance,
- clenching fists,
- clothing removal,
- defensive posture (?), and
- exaggerated moving or stretching limbs.
- signs of clenched teeth,
- furrowed brow,
- pursed lips,
- bared teeth and
- wide, non-blinking eyes;
- wiping off imaginary lint;
- hair straightening and clothing adjustments that come at inappropriate times;
- staring directly at or repeatedly glancing at the intended target;
- repeated visual attention to targets of focus like the chin, nose, throat or eyes;
- closed/clenched fist;
- facial muscles to contract;
- trapezius muscles that cover the back of the neck and shoulders rise as large muscles of the body constrict in prep for an assault;
- clenched fists, tightened face, flaring nostrils and dropping one side (usually the strong side) behind the other;
- body position shifting that can be indicative of nervous energy and fight positioning;
- eye blink rates can noticeably alter in one of two ways;
- dilated pupils,
- hidden hands,
- dipping to the strong side as though grabbing something,
- mouth breathing/panting,
- hands defiantly on hips,
- contemptuous spitting,
- pacing, etc.
Layered Security/Safety/Defense
- Appropriate Knowledge
- Appropriate Understanding
- Appropriate Awareness
- Appropriate Observational Skills
- Appropriate Orientation Skills
- Appropriate Decision Skills
- Appropriate Taken Actions Skills
Now, the subtext to each layer (this includes that long list of behaviors above as well) is where things get a bit challenging 😥! Each layer is merely a speed bump, but not a wall. The accumulated understanding and abilities or skills builds a solid wall where the only chink in the armor is the human factor, the person.
