Blog Article/Post Caveat (Read First Please: Click the Link)
I have ruminated on the makiwara, as well with other topics of interest in karate-do, to a number of articles as listed by links below. The titles as you will see have been numbered and I just want to let you know that the numbering doesn't matter since each article or post can stand alone and when it does not is will have a link within it to continue the readings.
I am creating this post to follow up with the one I just did on the tameshiwari art of breaking. After all, in most karate dojo the two are linked like yin/yang, a fundamental principle of karate-do. Each are relatively short posts but be ready for a longer read if you are going to take on the entire list. Enjoy:
In addition, I would venture to say that the makiwara is NOT something necessary for self-protection for self-defense and that I would consider it a tool much like the art of tameshiwari used by the karate-ka to temper their bodies and minds with the understanding there are more critically important concepts and practices and skills required to achieve appropriate security and safety under the heading of self-protection. Remember, intent and perspective are necessary to achieve the appropriate mind-state and mind-set for violence.
