Energy Sai, Really…

Blog Article/Post Caveat (Read First Please: Click the Link)

First, since the source of inspiration for this article would not our could not explain the concept, trait or other explanation as to what is meant be energy sai I found I had to resort to the basics of what is energy and how that relates to a piece of metal forged and shaped into the Okinawan Kobudo Sai. I still wait for "someone" to describe to me how an object that is static in nature have or be of energy. It is spoken of how it is imbued with a type of energy and to date no one can explain how that is possible. It could be that it is symbolic much like how the American Indian describes how a warrior can be represented by an animal with its energy, etc. - maybe...

Second, if someone can explain and provide some factual data that speaks to this belief then I will gladly amend this article and accept that sai of Agena, Okinawa have energy.

Third, before I jump in with both feet, what is energy? Energy is:
  1. "power derived from the utilization of physical or chemical resources, especially to provide light and heat or to work machines." AND
  2. "the strength and vitality required for sustained physical or mental activity." AND
  3. "Energy, in physics, the capacity for doing work. It may exist in potential, kinetic, thermal, electrical, chemical, nuclear, or other various forms. There are, moreover, heat and work—i.e., energy in the process of transfer from one body to another."
Now that we have that generally stated, how can an inanimate object have energy? Unless some external source of energy is attached to said inanimate object that object cannot be or produce or contain "energy." The only way a metal inanimate object can have energy is if it was exposed to some energy source like radiation then it would have energy and if it does that energy is not in any way going to effect that inanimate object again unless it is attached to some device that can make use of the radioactive contamination.

Now, if some external source is attached to that inanimate object that source if animate can transfer their energy into that object and dependent on how that is accomplished create force and power not due to the sources generated energy but due exclusively to the movement and mass of said inanimate object. If this is true, the question begs:

Can hand made manufactured weaponry, like karate's sai, have energy? It being metal it can "conduct" energy provided said energy is conducted from a source, often attached, that CAN generate energy. An inanimate object must meet the following in order to have energy, i.e.,

"energy-source. Noun. (plural energy sources) A source from which useful energy can be extracted or recovered either directly or by means of a conversion or transformation process (e.g. solid fuels, liquid fuels, solar energy, biomass, etc.)"

A metal sai or any other piece of metal in and of itself cannot be or contain any type of energy, i.e., a fuel, of a solar nature, oil or coal or gas or wind or geothermal or hydropower or being plugged somehow in a wall outlet, etc.

So the question is now, “What possible meaning would be gained by saying something is imbued with energy as if that something held some special quality, etc.?” The question was asked of a source, “How can a pair of karate sai have energy, what is that energy and what is the end product of that energy in the sai, in this case?” To date, no one can answer that question except in mystical you must be a believer to believe way.

Just because it is handmade; just because it may be connected to the birthplace of karate and kobudo; just because it is handmade; even if it is made of some special source materials does NOT imbue it with any energy and does not contribute to any energy generated during its use as if some special quality of the material means one can generate more energy than with others and so on.

Now, lets talk about “chinkuchi and chinkuchi pushup bars!”
