OPINION: Cannabis in Martial Arts
When I read, I read Mr. Vesia's blog all the time, Martial Views article on "Cannabis Infused Jiu-Jitsu" I did a double take. Then I hit the link to the promoter's log to read that article and I did a triple take. Is this fake news I wondered and to date I still have not proven one way or another if this is real... but, if it is...
To start reading about this go to Vesia Sensei's article, which is still the top one to date, and read that bad bear here: http://www.martialviews.com
When you get to the second paragraph hold off clicking the promoter's blog like till you read the entire Vesia Sensei article.
Now that you are done, here is my opinion:
Anything that may diminish your cognitive abilities is NOT good; anything that diminishes your physical ability is NOT good; anything that diminishes your skills and ability to self-protect is NOT good. To my mind this is a sad state of affairs when a promoter BRAGS about the use of drugs in a sport. Even if not about self-protection, just sport competitions, I still believe wholeheartedly that to use any type of artificial or nature grown substance that changes your mind, body and spirit against that natural ability we are born with is NOT good.
Shame on the promoter; shame on the participants who make use of it; shame on the industry because using the justification that cannabis, even the medicinal versions, as a way to justify using it in the sport without just cause of medical reasons is simply that, an excuse and justification to just get high.
If you use and expect to have the proficiency and skills for self-protection then you are simply reducing your chances and leaving yourself open to resorting to greater force levels and methods than the law, the legal system and society will tolerate... in my opinion.
