Words (Neuro-linguistic Programming [the language of the mind])

“Sticks and Stones can break my bones but words will never hurt me!” Me: Wanna bet?

Words, both written and spoken, have a great deal of influence on our lives. Wait a minute, words are just a single word description of a more complex communications system for people. When someone is in receiving mode they will be affected by another persons words along with facial expression, body language, tone, intonation, cadence, rhythm, etc. of one’s voice that conveys meaning. When someone is on the expression mode the same applies but it is the other person’s interpretations, etc., that come into play dependent on our words and all the other stuff already mentioned.

Words: the spoken work and written word are weighted differently. There are nuances you get only by hearing, then seeing, then comparing impressions. This is why I read first, then I listen next and then I compare my perceptions, impressions and finally question my beliefs

Words, also more psychological and what I refer to as “self-talk,” is the most influential communications any person can experience, the very words we think in our minds. Self-talk is huge!

Our very beliefs and experiences are a compilation of the spoken words of our parents, teachers, friends and family, but…MOST IMPORTANTLY ourselves! Like all things in life, its the negative side that tends to get all the attention making it doubly hard to create a mind-state and self-talk that is positive or takes the negative and transforms it into a positive as a learning and teaching experience.

With knowledge, understanding and a lot of practice we can take control away from the words and drive words toward a positive self-talking mind-state that even in the face of great adversity takes lemons and makes lemonade. People with positive self-talk learned in the beginning that we incorporate our stimuli and especially words into our own vocabulary, it then can become hazardous to our view of the world and especially important, to ourselves; our self-worth; our attitudes; our very thinking processes.

When we then speak, without the effort and conscious effort to form positive self-talk, and hear our own voices as we speak to others and when we hear our own voices through inner dialogue all day long and even when we dream that voice is the most powerful voice of all. What we say to ourselves, self-talk, has a direct impact on the way we perceive and relate to the world around us.

This process has a scientific name, it’s called “neuro-linguistic programming,” or what they call the language of the mind. As people have come to know, the power of the mind leads the power of the body and the two make up our world, either positive in nature or negative. How we change this world and our behaviors is to simply, “change the language use about ourselves” that effect words, mind-state and behaviors.

It’s all in the power of the words used, if you praise yourself for the very things and behaviors you experience and perform regardless of its negative or positive results making and turning it into a positive that those things in life become positive and important to you.

We cannot change words and actions of others as said by others and yet we can certainly change the words and actions we say and do to ourselves. We begin by recognizing the power of words through self-talk and reform our inner language to take advantage of our own positivity allowing ourself to unravel negative behavior and talk and make a positive change in our very lives.

We are literally rewiring our brains through a process of neuro-linguistic self-programming and that has such far reaching benefits and becomes a worthwhile effort for self and in communications with others regardless of their self-talk and attitudes.

“Action’s speak louder than words and words speak to understanding actions!”
“Words guide the application of our actions.”
