An awesome power to wield and hits directly to the influence principles of the compliance principle. Depending on how compliance influence principles are applied it can suggest to the mind to the point where one actually does something they would normally not. Example, suggestion is used in sales efforts to suggest to a potential buyer how much they "need" this or that to the point they say yes and buy what they feel they need.
In karate and martial disciplines suggestibility is huge. The very fact that we have perceptions of rank, proficiency and other factors it makes suggestions to one's mind effecting the outcome of training, practice and any applications done. It is impossible to not be exposed to suggestions both subconscious and not.
We, as students and even teachers, will look to others as to the bling involved, i.e., trophies, accolades, promotions, etc., and actions and behaviors of those we encounter in the dojo in determining how we may act, often unconsciously. Like the student sparring with a high ranked karate-ka teacher who when beginning hesitatingly applies methods and techniques due to the suggestion of that rank, person and abilities often perceived through suggestibilities rather than reality. In short, by suggestions we tend to assume and this is normal as to human species survival.
Look at suggestion as a form of hypnosis where our perceptions are influenced not just by the suggestion but by the very experiences, knowledge, memories and understanding we have, currently perceive and tend to suggest to ourselves as to possible futures that set suggest to our mind, mind-set and mind-STATE.
If one’s direct or indirect, subconsciously suggested, suggestion does trigger something as to their hopes and dreams, to say ok to any failures they feel, to allay any fears they are having or to trigger those fears to hinder them, to confirm their suspicions often through assumptions and past perceived experiences and then helps them to face a fear or enemy even if it is just a suggestion rather than actual reality; if any one or two of these events are triggered by suggestions and ones suggestibilities then you have cast the line, they have bitten and the hook is embedded to lead them either “astray” or on “the golden path,” for suggestion and suggestibility work yin-yang, both sides of the same coin.
It is said in the compliance industry that influence principles if used correctly will inspire people to want, want, to do anything for those who encouraged their dreams, justified their frailties, to set aside that which the fear, to confirm their biases and dissonances, and to throw hard objects at their very enemies both human and psychological. When you have done this you have achieved control and influence over others so they can be influences either to the yin of things or the yang of things, i.e., the good or the bad and sometimes as a result, the UGLY!
It comes down to human behaviors and suggestions and suggestibilities often lead us to control and influence others. This can be important in self-protection as a means to avoid and deescalate situations and events. It can be how one teaches and learns and it influences the entire process. Learn about suggestibility, influence principles and the compliance process, it can lead to great achievements and evolutionary growth in change or it can lead us to devastation, destruction and grave harm to death.
