Technique Based to Principled Based

Often the two sides battle with people adamant about technique-based teachings while other people adamant about principled-based teachings of martial/karate disciplines. Folks who are looking ask, "Which one is best?"

In short, both are absolutely of value to the the martial/karate practitioners. In the martial/karate realms both are applied to reach a wholehearted one way. Like learning basic techniques such as the upper/lower body basics taught is some systems one has to start with the basics of the system and that is best taught through technique-based ways. What happens from the early teachings is they left the islands way too early and assumed the technique-based ways were the only ways.

What people in the know understand fully is that, like the yin-yang principle, the technique-based ways are a prerequisite to the principled-based ways. As a matter of fact, sensei and senpai know well that principles are taught indirectly when they are taught the technique-based ways. It is then a matter of evolving to a state where the full principled-based teachings are taught.

Technique-based is the easier so you could classify that is the "yin" of study; the principled-based is the harder so you could classify that as the "yang" of study. Once you take the two then you apply the full yin-yang study to evolve both into the one, the wholehearted principled base study, training, practice and applications.
