Awareness - YOU

There is awareness then there is an awareness of yourself. Being aware of how you interact and effect the immediate area around you, the environment in which you are at any given moment and how you are affecting things that are going on around you. Are you aware of what consequences your actions, words, etc., have on others, etc.?

Awareness of you is about how you think, perceive, distinguish and act. How you interact with and in situations is an awareness of you. This type of awareness goes a long, long way to aid you in recognizing and avoiding most hostile situations.

Take this a step further, awareness of your body. In martial arts self-defense one aspect is the utilization of fundamental principles and our awareness of how they affect our bodies when trying to apply them becomes critical. It is not just seeing it in the mirrors of the dojo but “Feeling” it as you move and apply your discipline. It is about feeling how your adversary moves, etc., when applying tactile applications. Awareness of you is about feeling your structure so you know when it is good and when it is not good. The same goes with alignments, centeredness, balance, etc. Your awareness must develop so your lizard brain will detect when principles are used correctly to stop a threat.

As readers can attest, there are a variety of awarenesses necessary to be secure and safe. Knowing them, understanding them and then to practice and apply them is a goal of martial arts and self-defense.
