I am not exactly being original here but in my posts I have decided to use SDMA or Self-defense martial arts as the main reference toward all those things necessary to make a martial system or discipline appropriate toward self-defense. Self-defense as described by all the below referenced authors and professionals.
Since I am motivated to adjust my understanding of self-defense martial arts I am creating this SDMA to cover all aspects of what it really and realistically means to study martial arts toward self-defense. I think, at least for me, that this is important.
Example: Rory Miller and other professionals who teach reality based self-defense has come up with some guidance for martial arts sensei, teachings or instructors - Six Phases of Self-defense Training. You will read, often, about such things as I continue to study and understand its complexities so that, hopefully, you see the value and decide to make some changes - provided you are not already there (many of the martial artists out there actually are professionals and teach reality based self-defense/martial arts).
When you see SDMA you are seeing self-defense martial arts postings, articles and my mindless meanderings on the subject. Take heed tho:

In addition, my thoughts and opinions change from time to time…I consider this a necessary consequence of having an open mind.
