The following are just some of the various topics for research if you practice and/or teach self-defense:
Stand Your Ground Law in your state, county and city.
Self-Defense law in your state, county and city.
Doctrine of a Reasonable Person for your state, county and city.
The Legal Definition of Retreat in your state, county and city.
Position of Advantage as it relates to self-defense in your state, county and city.
Disparity of Force as it applies to self-defense in your state, county and city.
These are just a few topics that may be of benefit in self-defense. Couple this with all the other recommendations made at this blog on violence and self-defense for a greater understanding of what you will need to know to teach, practice and apply martial systems for self-defense. It is not as clear as you might expect and knowing this stuff in the event you have to defend yourself will go a long way toward your defense of self-defense. If nothing more than giving you the knowledge to apply self-defense properly but more important to articulate it to the police and other legal representatives.
Note: Not a complete all inclusive list of what you need to know, merely a start that depends on your efforts to research and discover more.
p.s. before commenting on subjects such as the Zimmerman thing or anything written in the news media you might find it of interest to know about this stuff and to understand how the media and legal system work. Anything else is ignorance. See last post for a more informed commentary on this subject.
