In the current edition of the "Classical Fighting Arts" the article titled, "The Empty Cup Myth" by Keffrey K. Mann has a section that tells us just how important terms, words and ideograms are to martial artists. He covers both the philosophy of language and how it applies to martial arts or systems. It demonstrates just how important understanding such things is to furthering our understanding of martial systems. Excellent article, worth the price of admission this issue.

It's Jeffrey K. Mann. He is a professor at Susquehanna University (Home of the Susquehanna Martial Arts Symposium) and the chief instructor of the school's Goju ryu dojo.
