To Know Something

It is not enough to just know something. It needs more than just knowledge and good memory. There is to know something deep down in the very core, the very cells of your body, mind, and spirit. To know something is to create a lake of knowledge the permeates the very being if each of us or it won't be of any value when it is needed the most.

To study a subject would indicate, for most, a more academic study that encompasses methods to encode the information for easy retrieval to say talk intelligently or to perform a job but to do what most professional warriors, i.e. military, police, corrections officers, EMT's, Firemen, etc., need is to attain a knowing of something that transcends mere academia.

Your body and spirit must do things instinctively before your mind even registers stimuli. It must do this seemingly like magic. In reality it is a compilation of experiences that register patterns as cues to act so the body and spirit do so without thought. It is a matter of removing the logical thinking part of our minds and allowing cellular type knowledge to perform appropriately.

It reminds me of a runner's high when running long distances. It is like the current project I am working on that removes my thinking brain and simple does the task in a manner that flows. Runner's get this mindless mode after a certain distance for long distance running that seems like the entire body flows along almost like you don't register the body movement, the feet pounding the pavement, the smooth rocking of the arms in perfect synchronization with the upper body, the midsection or hara, the hips, the leg movement creating a unified movement that simply "flows."

To know something in the light I mean is to know something that acts when stress is high, adrenaline is pumping and danger is imminent.

There is only one way I am aware of to achieve this model of knowing, to gain as much experience as possible. Experience in training, experience in reality practice and experience in application of all the knowing you build. It takes time, effort, diligence and spirit to seek it out, to maintain it and to gain from it. It cannot be done haphazardly or as a hobby. If you desire this level of knowing something then you have to commit yourself to it, wholeheartedly. It is the sum of all its parts and all the parts are disciplines all unto themselves. No short cuts, just sweat, blood and tears with a smidgeon of taking it two or more steps beyond that level.

You ask yourself, do you have what it takes? Do you have the desire? Do you have the discipline? Do you have the spirit? Are you committed? Are you read, willing and able? If you are, then you're on the right track. If you are not, then you're just marking time, taking up time and dancing the dance for the dance.
