I have come to enjoy the CFA publication as a solid reliable source for traditional or classical views toward martial arts with specificity toward Okinawan karate-do. The recent article on Isshinryu has be doubting the articles simply because a fellow Isshinryu'ist, whom I respect a great deal as a Isshinryu historian, has encountered a bit of bias from the CFA staff, who are responsible for the article in question.
I still remain satisfied with their work but for now do so with hesitancy and reservations until I can see some positive accountability on CFA's part to provide some redress for perceived inaccuracies regarding Isshinryu. It is not because I believe they are either right or wrong. I was glad to see something of note here on Isshinryu as well as additional references in other articles in this particular issue toward Tatsuo-san but because of my personal knowledge and recent post from the contributing author for said article believe they, CFA that is, should print a corrected article.
I would not say this if my source were in agreement with the editor and staff or if they had responded to his concerns as to the articles content and corrected it before press time then this post would not exist. It is my respect for the historian along with his experiences, i.e. three years in Okinawa and a grade of Go-dan, that speak loudly to me and bring the article into "question."
I respect CFA, I respect the historian Andy Sloane more due to my interactions with him and I hope that some amenable process can be achieved to mend the fences and get the right, correct and accurate information out there regarding Isshinryu.
This is my "PERSONAL" opinion, view and perception; not anyone else's and not any organization since I would have to be a member to do that anyway and am not a member of any organization.
