Musashi - Physical then Philosophical

If you can believe what is written about the "sword saint" it is obvious that we Americans and Musashi did the same exact thing. We began with the fascination of the physical side long before we took up any philosophical aspects. I have to admit when I began my preference was learning to "kick butt" was a lot higher than any spiritual or philosophical journeys.

Maybe this has something to do with male growth to maturity. After all my focus to the more philosophical side, i.e. ken-po goku-i and I Ching, etc., really didn't fully flower until these last ten years or so.

Musashi didn't start to actually philosophize and write the book of five rings until he proved himself and fought those battles if historically correct, i.e. the stories that is.

So, we should not expect today's martial artist, young ones, to even consider the philosophical side because they, like Musashi, are focused on fighting and winning even it not actually combat but sport, the brain still thinks its the same even if the conscious side knows better.

Yes? No? Maybe? Comments?
